Wonderful and unique, les Gorges du Verdon are a must see in La Provence. It’s probably (and I’m quite sure about it) the most beautiful canyon in France. Surrounded by mountains and forest, les Gorges du Verdon are a fantastic place all year. Loved by hikers and other sportive people during summer, it gets magical in winter when you drive through the intense forest.
It is not only an incredible place to discover the beauty of nature, it’s also a magic place. The color of water is unique and changing every hour and every day depending on the sun. I would say that the best way to discover it will be by kayak. Yes, you heard me (the girl who totally hates everything related to sport). It’s only way to get into the small caves and rivers, and most of all, it’s the best way to get out of the crowd.
Part of les Gorges du Verdon, there is an artificial lake built in 1973 and used today not only by tourists during summer but was originally made for fire-fighting planes during summer.
After spending a few days visiting villages under 38°C, we spent a day at le Lac de Sainte-Croix, enjoying the fresh water and the summer breeze.
It was a real pleasure to re-discover the lake and the beauty of it. Sometimes we forget what is around us and forget to enjoy it.
So I am not going to lie, when you will arrive, you will see a crazy crowd of people also waiting to jump in the fresh water. Buuuuuuuuuuut (and that’s something that I really really loved about this place) the lake is so big that you will find (like we did) a private spot under a tree far from the crowd and babies yelling.
